Namings & Welcomings
Our name is very significant; it gives us our identity, connects us to our family and is part of who we are. An occasion to share your choice of name welcomes your child into the world and helps them take their place within your circle of family and friends.
As parents you can:
• Share your joy at the birth of your baby.
• Recognise your new role and responsibilities.
• Make commitments.
• Express your hopes for your new family.
• Choose special people who will promise to love, support and guide your child.
• Involve siblings and grandparents.
A baby naming or welcoming ceremony can be a wonderful alternative if you do not want a traditional christening or other religious ceremony. It gives your child the freedom to choose their own beliefs, or none, when they grow up.
You can choose words that are meaningful to you and combine different religious or cultural backgrounds into a single occasion.
A naming ceremony can take place wherever you like: in your home or garden or at a special venue.
I will work with you to design a ceremony which truly expresses all your hopes and feelings.
You can include music, poems, readings, hymns, promises or blessings and incorporate family traditions or cultural customs which reflect your own beliefs and values.
You may wish to add a few elements to recognise your new roles or symbolically welcome your child: lighting candles, giving gifts, planting a tree or creating a wishing box.
A tailor made occasion like this captures all the excitement of your new baby and gives you memories to treasure forever.
I am also delighted to design ceremonies to welcome and name older children, families coming together from previous relationships, or for adopted children who are joining a new family.
Email info@ceremonydesigner.co.uk or call me if you’d like to know more. Together we can create a beautiful ceremony to welcome your new addition.
“Thank you for all your help and the wonderful service you wrote for William. We had an amazing day and are really pleased we decided to go down the route of a personalised blessing for our family. It was exactly what we needed and hopefully provided William with a perfect start in life. Best wishes.”
